25: The Song That Goes Like This – Christopher Sieber and Sara Ramirez

From the musical comedy Spamalot, which was based on the 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail, comes this amusing love ballad.

In this song, the radical Dennis Galahad sings about how the Lady of the Lake helped him become a knight. The song even ups the comedy ante by having them both note the frequent key changes in other romantic songs.

Simply having fun while performing this song is the best approach. Try to contain your laughter as much as possible. If you’re about to imitate Sara’s purposefully high voice, congratulations.

24: Come Up To My Place – Betty Garrett and Frank Sinatra

This song, which originally appeared in the 1944 Broadway production of “On The Town,” was later adapted into a 1949 motion picture.

The sailor Chip in this song longs to visit the locations mentioned in his father’s out-of-date travel handbook. He just so happens to get into the taxi being driven by the cute young cabbie, Hildy, who wants to take him back to her apartment.

Hildy informs Chip that the places he listed as places to go either no longer exist or have been replaced by a newer one. In the end, she is successful in persuading him to travel to her place.

This humorous song is easy to sing and doesn’t require exceptional vocal prowess. It also contains some subtle innuendos. All you have to do is add some energy and fun to your performance.

23: Love Shack – The B-52’s

The pop-rock single “Love Shack” by the B-52s was released in 1989. The song’s title, which is still a karaoke standard, alludes to a secret location where lovers might gather to do the act.

You can enjoy this song with your significant other even though it is typically done in groups, so whatever takes your fancy! Along with its catchy rhythm and endearing lyrics, “Love Shack” has a frenetic groove that will get everyone in the room dancing.

22: You’re The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly – Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty

You undoubtedly inferred this song would be completely stupid from the title, which in many ways, it is.

This country song tells the story of a couple that blames each other for their life’s sudden upheavals but they still adore each other in spite of this. This song makes our list of funny duet songs because of its easy-to-remember lyrics and soothing guitar tune.

Add some sarcasm to your voice to convey that married-couple atmosphere to make your performance more enjoyable. After all, everyone likes a bit of drama!

21: Schadenfreude – Natalie Venetia Belcon and Rick Lyon

“Schadenfreude,” a snarky song about enjoying other people’s suffering, is featured in the musical Avenue Q.

This adaptation of Sesame Street and other puppet programs with more mature themes makes the musical quite distinctive.

Even while it’s not the most romantic song to sing along to with your significant other, it more than makes up for it by being a funny tune with a catchy melody and clever lyrics.

20: Summer Nights – John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John

You probably know this song if you enjoy the classics. In the summer of 1978, the pop song “Summer Nights” from the musical Grease went viral around the world.

The main characters Danny and Sandy are chatting with their pals about their summertime romance in this song. Sandy talks about her love for Danny, while Danny boasts about the physical sides of the relationship, notably Sandy’s looks.

Although the vocals in this song aren’t particularly strong, the song’s fun lyrics and upbeat rhythm are. It’s such a classic and it had to be on this list of duets for couples! It’s a terrific song for you and your pals to sing together as well!

19: I’m On A Boat – The Lonely Island Ft. T-Pain

“I’m on a Boat” is a funny spoof of rap songs and videos, notably the cliche of sailing on a yacht. It was first broadcast as an SNL digital short.

The ridiculous tune is littered with references to excessive drinking, profanity, and wealth display.

The synths and tune make it a very good bop despite the sparse words. Get your partner to rap along while you deliver the lyrics angrily to properly sell this song.

18: We Built This City- Starship

The rock band Starship’s song “We Built This City” has been called one of the worst songs ever. In essence, it is a protest against the 1980s closures of live music venues.

Despite having fewer funny elements, the song is fun to sing because of its peppy rhythm and simple lyrics. It’s a fantastic opportunity to let your inner rockstar loose as well.

17: Barbie Girl – Aqua

Everyone who has participated in karaoke has probably heard of this song. “Barbie Girl,” a satire on femininity and Barbie dolls, was released in 1997 by the Danish band Aqua. Barbie talks in the song about letting anyone treat her in whatever they choose as Ken makes lewd remarks to her.

This song is guaranteed to satisfy the crowd because of its upbeat melody and catchy lyrics, which will get your audience dancing. If you want to give your presentation additional vigor, try singing in high, squeaky notes like Barbie, sure to make viewers laugh.

16: Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson Ft. Bruno Mars

“Uptown Funk” is a funky pop song about selling drugs that is included in Mark Ronson’s album Uptown Special.

Yes, you heard correctly. The song was at the top of the music charts in a number of nations, including Australia and Ireland, despite its barely disguised R-rated content.

With its appealing lyrics and dance-floor rhythm, the song is quite straightforward and will encourage you to bring your uptown funk into the room to the delight of onlookers.

15: The Llama Song – Go Noodle And Moosetube

Simply told, this song is a bizarre number about several types of llamas. However, the ridiculousness doesn’t stop with llamas. In the lyrics, a number of words are also combined to form humorous phrases.

It’s a fantastic song to sing along to with your significant other when you’re feeling tipsy because of its funny beat and whimsical overall atmosphere. Please note that it is essentially a children’s song so don’t read too much into it. This song can also be thought of as annoying, akin to ‘Baby Shark’, so use with caution.

14: Africa – Toto

The soft-rock song “Africa” by the rock group Toto was released in 1982.

The song is about a man’s complete infatuation with the African continent, as suggested by the song’s title. One of the band members, David Paich, based the lyrics on a film that showed the suffering of Africans.

Even though it’s a straightforward song, it features a warm, uplifting melody with funky synths and the soothing sound of traditional instruments like the kalimba and gamelan.

13: Anyone Else But You – The Moldy Peaches

This song, which was originally by the indie rock group The Moldy Peaches (yup, that’s their name), gained prominence after it was included as a track in the 2007 movie Juno. The tender love song “Anyone Else but You” has a gentle tune that brings to mind first loves.

The lyrics, which alternate between sweet and purely humorous, are also extremely entertaining. This music will undoubtedly make you feel good inside.

12: In Spite Of Ourselves – Iris Dement and John Prine

“In Spite of Ourselves,” a folk-country song from 1999, is a humorous yet endearing duet about a couple who discuss each other’s peculiar characteristics yet comfort one another that they wouldn’t rather love anyone else.

This song is fairly simple to sing and is supported by a straightforward guitar melody and a duet. The clever lyrics will also make your audience and partner laugh a little.

11: Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer – Elmo and Patsy

As ridiculous as the title may be, Elmo and Patsy actually sang this novelty Christmas tune in 1979. This is a fantastic and funny duet karaoke choice, especially around the Christmas holidays!

10: Push It – Salt-N-Pepa

Famous hip-hop song “Push It” by Salt-N-Pepa was released in 1987. TV programmes like Brooklyn 99 and Glee have both featured it.

Despite the group’s protests that the song is only about dancing, the song’s meaning has been interpreted as promoting sexual activity.

The song’s catchy groove would make you want to start busting a move, so they aren’t entirely off base. Although it’s simple to remember the lyrics, you need to sing the song with the appropriate number of “push its” to get it right, easier said than done!

9: The Tennis Song – Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana

One of the songs from the 1989 musical City of Angels is titled “The Tennis Song.”

When Detective Stone shows up at Alaura Kingsley’s Hollywood home in this duet, he is invited to a suggestive tennis match. Due to the overtly suggestive lyrics and sensual jazzy tune, this song is ideal for lovers.

8: Baby, You Got What It Takes – Dinah Washington and Brook Benton

Singers Dinah and Brook had a huge hit with this classy song in 1960, reaching the top spot on the Billboard R&B chart.

It is sung in a less humorous tone, but it is a fantastic romantic duet with a dash of fun teasing and an upbeat tune.

7: Anything You Can Do – Betty Hutton and Howard Keel

“Anything You Can Do” was first introduced in the 1946 musical Annie Get Your Gun, in which the leads Annie and Frank compete with one another in a variety of challenging feats.

This tense musical’s combative lyrics and bizarre rhythm will have you and your date in fits of laughter. You can even up the ante by channelling your inner drama queen, as you should in my opinion, it’s karaoke after all.

6: Nothing Is Too Wonderful To Be True – Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

This song is a duet that Christine and Freddy sing in that is a combination of comedy and romance from the musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (released 2004).

Although Freddy tries to con Christine out of her money, he becomes sucked into her idealistic song about the good things in life. You should warm up before singing this song because while Freddy’s part is simple, Christine’s portion is quite high.

The alternative is to wing it and just simply enjoy singing with your spouse or whoever else, it is a fun duet at the end of the day, no matter who is singing.

5: Fairytale Of New York – The Pogues and Kirsty McColl

This song is about Irish immigrants to America in the nineteenth century who came to avoid the potato famine and to become successful performers in New York. However, many did not, and they were homeless.

Additionally, it is reported to be motivated by a desire to steer clear of corny Christmas carols and a desire to draw attention to the reality that a lot of people don’t enjoy Christmas.

The song was used to introduce the 1996 movie Basquiat, which was about a graffiti artist who gains notoriety in the art world.

4: A Whole New World – Aladdin

This well-known duet from Aladdin by Disney is a karaoke favourite. There is a good probability that you are a Disney Baby and, like other Disney babies, you have seen the original versions of the Disney princess movies if you grew up using the TV as a babysitter.

Aladdin has the best “Prince and Princess” duet, despite the fact that its soundtrack may not be as full of hits as, say, Beauty and the Beast’s. In all honesty, we could have just made this entire list exclusively of Disney duets, but that would be indulgent.

3: Lady Marmalade – Labelle

Kenny Nolan’s disco outfit originally commissioned Bob Crewe and Nolan to write the song “Lady Marmalade” for them. The chorus’ repeated use of the sexually suggestive French phrase “Voulez-vous coucher avec moi?” (Do you want to sleep with me?) is the song’s most well-known refrain.

The song initially became well-known when it was released in 1974 by the American R&B group Labelle. It topped the Canadian RPM national singles chart and held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for one week. Labelle’s rendition was chosen by the Library of Congress in 2021 for inclusion in the National Recording Registry because it is “culturally, historically, or aesthetically important.”

2: Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey

Although this isn’t really a duet, it does discuss two individuals. We can’t help but acknowledge that this song’s ability to be heard in a new way is also due in large part to the TV show Glee and their talent at turning any song into a duet.

People risking everything to pursue their aspirations is a timeless theme of the song. It’s a song that most people in the room are likely familiar with, and the pre-chorus is sure to encourage everyone to join in

1: Islands In The Stream – Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers

This is my all time favourite duet and it had to be the number 1 of these funny duets for karaoke. It is not exactly funny but it does have an upbeat tune and melody so I just had to include it. The Bee Gees composed this as an R&B tune. It was written for Marvin Gaye, Maurice Gibb said on March 10, 2009, when he appeared on the BBC Breakfast programme.

However, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton recorded it as a duet, and the Gibb Brothers also provided vocals. On their 1998 live CD One Night Only, The Bee Gees gave the song their own unique performance.

Funny Duets For Karaoke – Closing remarks and thoughts

The great equaliser is karaoke. Any voice is equal on that platform, no matter where it may be, whether it has Mariah Carey’s octave range or sounds like Oscar the Grouch on a weekend binge. However, it’s important to pick the correct karaoke music, and in our case, the best duets.

Nobody wants to hear you fumbling over your own words while trying to keep up with some Eminem speed-rap marathon or growling a 20-minute stoner metal dirge. I hope this article will come in handy on your next couple’s night out!

Closing remarks:

In this article of funny duets for couples we have looked at various funny karaoke songs for couples and friends for that matter. This should be helpful when you have a partner to perform with at your next karaoke night or just in front of the TV at home. If I were you, I would opt for the Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers classic – ‘Islands in the Stream’.
